Microscopy Characterization of Organic-Inorganic Interfaces

22 - 23 February 2018

The meeting is dedicated to microscopy of materials comprised of both organic and inorganic constituents (in close proximity) and is aimed at bringing together experts from both the life science and materials science communities to address this challenging and increasingly important topic.

The 2018 focused lecture, taking place on the second day of the meeting, will be organised by Prof Nico Sommerdijk from the Eindhoven University of Technology. Prof Sommerdijk is the scientific director of the Center for Multiscale Electron Microscopy and leads the Laboratory of Materials and Interface Chemistry at Eindhoven University of Technology. With his current research focusing on bio-inspired hybrid materials through biomimetic mineralization and self-organization, 2018’s lecture series will add some really interesting and inspiring talks to the event programme.

Scientific Organisers: Dr. Nadezda V. Tarakina (MPIKG), Dr. Andy Bushby (QMUL), Dr. Roland Fleck (KCL), Mr. Russell Bailey (QMUL), Dr. J.P. Patterson (TU/e), Prof. N.A.J.M. Sommerdijk (TU/e)

Microscopy Characterization of Organic-Inorganic Interfaces

23-24 February 2017

The meeting is dedicated to microscopy of materials comprised of both organic and inorganic constituents (in close proximity) and is aimed at bringing together experts from both the life science and materials science communities to address this challenging and increasingly important topic.

The second edition of the meeting broadens its horizons and is welcoming not only electron microscopists but scientists applying other microscopy techniques to share their knowledge and expertise in solving complex problems related to hybrid materials (bio-inspired composites, hybrid solar cells, mineralized tissues, colloidal nanoparticles, etc.).

We are delighted to have talks given by world-leading experts in microscopy!

In addition we introduce a special Focus Lecture series which will be held on the second day.
This year, it will be organized together with The Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel) and be dedicated to "Cryogenic preparation and imaging strategies for soft matter in materials science".

Scientific Organisers: Dr. Nadezda V. Tarakina, Dr. Roland Fleck, Dr. Andy Bushby, Dr. Natalie Reznikov, Mr. Russell Bailey

Electron Microscopy Characterisation of Organic-Inorganic Interfaces

22 February 2016

This brand new one-day meeting will be held at Queen Mary University of London, People’s Palace, Mile End Campus on the 22nd of February and aims to stimulate collaboration between life science and material science microscopists for solving interdisciplinary materials problems using the knowledge and expertise of both communities.

The workshop will consist of lectures from experts in both life science and material science electron microscopy and from technological/industrial partners covering a broad range of microscopy techniques (aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy, cryo-EM, FIB-SEM and TEM tomography, EELS, holography, etc.).

A trade exhibition and a poster session will provide great opportunities for discussions. We believe that this format will foster creative thinking and inspire new ideas and collaborations.

Scientific Organisers: Dr. Nadezda V. TarakinaDr. Roland Fleck, Dr. Andy Bushby

Abstract submission deadline for poster presentations has been extended until the 15th of January 2016!!!
